How to think about GLP-1 weight-loss timelines
GLP-1 medications can meaningfully reduce appetite and improve hunger regulation, but the scale rarely moves in a perfectly straight line. Early on, many people are on a starting dose designed for tolerability. That phase can still produce results, but maintenance dosing and consistent habits often make the trend more predictable.
This calculator uses a weekly percentage of body weight approach. That’s useful because it scales with starting size. For example, a 1% weekly rate looks different for someone at 250 lb than someone at 150 lb. We also apply a small activity multiplier for people who are consistently active.
Use the timeline milestones (3, 6, and 12 months) as planning anchors—not promises. If you’re losing faster than expected, prioritize protein and resistance training to reduce lean-mass loss risk. If you’re losing more slowly, small changes to consistency (protein first meals, steps, sleep) often matter more than drastic restriction.
